Astorga 11.2 miles

Today’s walk was beautiful. a little chilly but perfect walking weather.

We are out of the Meseta and back in the gorgeous mountains of Spain. That is probably why it’s colder. We have now entered the Galicia region of Spain which I believe we will be in the rest of the Camino to Santiago.

The scenery was very pretty today and the sky and clouds were so colorful.

We passed by David’s place, aka La Casa de los Dioses. David Vidal, a pilgrim from Barcelona, created the colorful and artistic oasis to provide passing by pilgrims with food, fruit, water, coffee or whatever is needed. He called it La Casa de los Dioses to mean everyone was welcome whether they believe in one God or many gods. He handed it over to other stewards in 2018 but his tradition lives on. There is a donation bucket so that more food can be purchased.

We entered the beautiful town of Astorga, a very old town that started with the Romans. It’s famous for the Spanish architect, Gaudi and famous for chocolate makers. There is a museum that we will not have time to visit but we did but some chocolate since there are shops everywhere in town.

We ventured to the Gaudi Palace museum and walked around the Catedral de Astorga. Now we are off to the Pilgrims Mass. I ran out of time for the Roman museum. Maybe next time.

We start our trek back up the mountain in the morning. Maybe we will see snow again lol.
