Castrojeriz 12.5 miles

We got on the trail about 8 am. We stayed at La Casa Abuelo and it is run by a family that works so hard. They have their hotel and a hostal and a restaurant and they take care of their parents that are elderly and I saw them feeding the elderly mother. It was very touching.

We started the Meseta yesterday. The meseta is the part of the Camino that has large flat plains located between the cities Burgos and Leon. A lot of people skip the Meseta because there are not a lot of rest spots and it can get hot. Today was day two of it for us and our weather was so beautiful. I had to take off my hoodie just in last few miles. I do not plan to skip this part.

We hit our 200 mile mark today about 7 miles in, which was very exciting.

We stopped in a beautiful church, Our Lady of the Conception. It is a 14th-century church dominating the tiny village square of Hontanas.

We caught up with some of our pilgrim friends from Orisson that we have not seen in several days.

Just before entering Castrojeriz, there are ruins of an old monestery, the impressive ancient 14th-century Convento de San Antón, that was very cool to see.

Our hotel is quite amazing and we are going to have a hard time leaving. We were totally spoiled for the afternoon. It had a foot bath which was freezing cold but we enjoyed it, of course while having a glass of Rosada. The sun was so nice and warm and I sat outside the entire afternoon.

We will go the 7 pm Mass then have a nice dinner at the hotel after.

Tomorrow is a new day headed to Fromista.

Leaving Hornillo. Our room, the beautiful church and if you zoom in, you can see a cross on the top of the hill.
