Moratinos 18.75 miles

Phew!

We actually started today at 6:50 am. The weather was perfect and the sun was just coming up.

I admit that the scenery today was not the best. The excitement of today: food truck about 5 miles in (no baño), a few snails on the path (I don’t mean a slow pilgrim), thunder storms which began about three miles to the first town (10.7 miles in) and we didn’t get wet. The storms dropped the temperature and we had to don our jackets and rain coats to finish. We could still hear thunder but it was in the distance.

Today had the most pilgrims so far on the trail but when the rain started everyone disappeared, it was so weird.

The last town prior to Moratinos is Terradillos de Los Templarios. This town is linked to the history of the Knights Templar, as its nickname indicates. King Alfonso VIII of Castile donated the village to the Order of the Temple in 1191. The
Christian military order was one of the most famous and was constituted in 1118, after the First Crusade.

The Templar Knights have a big connection to the Camino which can found here:

Moratinos is a small town in Palencia with an ages-old hill in the town center studded with family owned wine-storage caves. It is amazing how different our accommodations are here compared to last night and double the price. I’ll give it a 1*

We will dine at 6 pm at the only restaurant in town.

We have a short walk tomorrow and no rain. Woo hoo!
