Triacastela 13.8 miles
Today was a fun hike. We have read over and over again that the sunrise in O Cebreiro is unbelievable.
I am certain it must be when there is no fog. We still got up early to get an early start just in case that sun popped out. We have learned that we take whatever the Camino gives us and happily accept the challenge. We had a foggy mist most of the day. The hike was many fun ups and downs with the biggest ascent at about the 6 mile mark. (My watch said I gained almost 1000 feet today). They say it actually has a high point that is 30 feet higher than O Cebreiro. Our last steep climb ended in a small town that had two restaurants at the top and it was the perfect place to grab breakfast.
The rain started to come down heavy when we were 5 minutes away from our hotel. We felt blessed for a good weather day.
Triacastela had three castles back in the 10th century and none of them remain now. It’s a very quaint small town that we may or may not explore.
We already did some laundry and now relaxation time until we find an early dinner.
We look forward to a shorter walk tomorrow and some sunshine by the time we reach Sarria.
Sarria is the town where many pilgrims begin their walk since it’s 100 km to Santiago and a peregrino needs to walk 100 km to get their Compestelo in Santiago. We have heard it is super crowded. I’m excited to see how many people are walking. Today we had hardly any in our site. I will be sure to let you know tomorrow or the day after.
